KUCCPS Invites Applications for Diploma in Law (Paralegal Studies), May 2026 Intake
Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened application for placement to Diploma in Law (Paralegal Studies) offered at the Kenya School of Law (KSL). The application, which targets prospective trainees seeking to join KSL in May 2026, will run until March 9, 2026. The minimum requirement for admission into the programme is a mean grade of C (plain) in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination, with at least C+ in English or Kiswahili. Successful applicants will have the option of taking their classes at KSL’s Karen or Nairobi (Town Centre) campuses, either in person or virtually depending on their preference. KUCCPS started placing students into the paralegal course following the launch of a partnership with KSL last year. The aim of the collaboration was to widen access to legal education pathways and create opportunities for students – particularly those who may not qualify for the traditional law degree programme – to enter the legal profession through paralegal training. Last year, KSL provided a capacity of 500 admission vacancies in the programme, which were filled in the first instance. A total of 813 individuals applied for the programme, signalling its popularity. A similar capacity is available for placement of applicants this year. Form Four leavers and professionals seeking to enhance their qualifications in the legal field are encouraged to apply. “The KUCCPS placement process upholds merit, fairness and equity, and ensures institutions admit high quality trainees from different parts of Kenya. This explains why institutions outside the Ministry of Education, such as KSL, are increasingly opting to recruit new students through the KUCCPS system,” said KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome. “This year, we expect all the 500 slots at KSL to be filled again.” The paralegal training programme helps to bridge the existing gap in middle cadre support for practicing legal professionals in the Bar, the corporate world and government institutions, according to KSL Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Henry Mutai. “The Diploma in Law programme is meant to meet the current needs for paralegals with broad-based knowledge, skills and abilities. By partnering with KUCCPS, we believe we can further enhance the reach and impact of our institution, while also contributing to the national goal of providing quality education to all Kenyan Citizens,” Dr. Mutai said during the launch of the partnership. The programme equips learners with practical legal skills necessary for paralegal duties such as investigation officers, court clerks, legal assistants and case-management officers in the public sector, private sector and the civil society. It also targets professionals in other disciplines who wish to have basic legal knowledge for personal and professional development.
