Smooth Transition to University: KUCCPS Engages Freshers at Garissa, Kibabii and Machakos Universities

As first-year students began reporting for studies in various universities, Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) is excited to participate in their orientation, which marks a smooth transition to higher education for thousands of students who benefitted from KUCCPS placement recently.

In the past week, KUCCPS joined other stakeholders for first-year reporting and orientation activities at Garissa University, Kibabii University and Machakos University. The engagements were designed not only to facilitate a seamless transition for the learners but also guide them on the next steps in their academic journey.

At Garissa University, the orientation was held from 27th to 29th August, 2025, bringing together 1,119 newly admitted students along with university administrators and key education stakeholders. Present were the university’s officials and representatives from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) and the African Education and Development Trust. Together, the stakeholders provided the students with guidance on the next steps, including transfer processes, financial aid and scholarship opportunities among others.

Similarly, KUCCPS officials participated in the orientation of 3,500 first-year students at Kibabii University in Bungoma County on 25th August, 2025. In addition to KUCCPS sensitisation, the students benefited from sessions with officers from Universities Fund who offered additional insights into student support services and the opportunities available to them.

Elsewhere, Machakos University warmly welcomed 3,129 first-year students, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in their academic journey. The event, graced by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Joyce Agalo alongside other officials and staff of the university, created a supportive atmosphere where students felt celebrated and encouraged. KUCCPS representatives sensitised students on key topics including placement and transfer processes. The sessions were meant to ensure that students gained a clear understanding of their academic options and the opportunities available to them.

Through these initiatives, KUCCPS continues to reaffirm its commitment to not only placing students to universities and colleges but also providing them with the knowledge and resources needed to navigate the transition. The Placement Service continues to play a vital role in shaping the futures of young people by promoting equitable access to higher education and training opportunities in Kenya.
