CEO'S remarks at Kenya High School Career Fair

KUCCPS Advises Students at Kenya High School Career Fair

Identity your Passion and Purpose, be Flexible on Career Options and Find a Mentor, CEO urges students

Nairobi, July 5, 2025: Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) participated in the Kenya High School Career Fair, where Chief Executive Officer Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome told her own career story to inspire 1,550 students.

Speaking as the Chief Guest at the career fair, Dr. Wahome advised the students to understand who they are as well as what they are passionate about. She urged them to discern their God-given purpose, emphasising the importance of spiritual values.

The students were inspired by her real life story about her rise to CEO. “I joined university to study a double major in sociology and communication that is after getting my diploma in oral health.” She went on to encourage the students to be flexible in their options, noting that one can always change a career because things change and thinking should not be linear. The learners were also reminded to be patriotic and seek solutions to problems.

Dr. Wahome also highlighted emerging trends in the course selection for the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education cohort. She noted an increase in applications in veterinary science and psychology courses as well as in agriculture and technology. She discouraged girls from negative external influences and pointed some mistakes that students make when choosing a career.

She concluded by advising the students to identify a mentor, a coach and a role model who will guide them forward in their career journey.

Thirteen other institutions and organizations were represented in the career fair, including Safaricom, University of Leicester (UK), Educare, Kabarak University, Uniabroad Education Services, Nazarene University, Brook House International School, Utalii College, Craydal, Boma International College, Air Travel Center, Overseas Education Advisory Centre and Strathmore University.

The fare ended with a plenary session where Dr. Wahome answered questions relating to KUCCPS student placement process including minimum subject requirements, cluster weight and cut-off points. After the meeting, learners were directed to the exhibition spaces where they received further guidance and mentorship on future application of courses.
