KUCCPS affirms support for talent development through national drama and film festival

April 18, 2024

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has affirmed its place in promoting talent among students at the Kenya National Drama and Film Festival.

It was another proud moment for KUCCPS as the curtains fell on the last act of the festival, which KUCCPS had supported as a partner. It was the second time that KUCCPS sponsored the national performances following a similar partnership in 2023.

KUCCPS utilises the drama and film festival as a platform to play its part in nurturing talent and spreading career guidance messages to students and the public at large. Like in the previous edition, schools prepared and presented exciting items with messages on KUCCPS mandate.  The items reinforced the organisation’s commitment to providing effective and efficient placement and career guidance services to students for globally competitive human capital and sustainable socio-economic development.

In her remarks ahead of  this year’s edition, KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome underscored the significance of the platform. “We look forward to the items that trainers and their students have painstakingly prepared, rehearsed and performed all the way to the national stage. In particular, we are hopeful that items focussing career choices, career guidance, higher education and training opportunities and the KUCCPS mandate in general will emerge the winners.”

The 62nd edition of the national festival, which began on April 8, 2024, ended on April 16, 2024 with electrifying performances, pomp, colour, laughter and inspirational speeches from Deputy President Hon. Rigathi Gachagua, Education Cabinet Secretary Hon. Ezekiel Machogu, Embu County Governor Hon. Cecily Mbarire and other leaders. The Deputy President commended the Ministry of Education, KUCCPS and other partners for organising a highly successful festival and congratulated the winning institutions, their trainers, directors and script writers for putting up high standard performances.

This year’s drama festival had over 23,900 participants across all levels, an increase from last year’s 15,000 participants, Hon. Machogu indicated.

Selected winners performed for His Excellency the President Dr. William Ruto, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, other top government officials, leaders, students, trainers and invited guests during a State Gala at the Sagana State Lodge in Nyeri on April 18, 2024.
